PDFs can be extremely useful, but they’re also hard to work with if you don’t have the right tools. Putting the contents of two different PDFs into one file isn’t just a matter of cutting and pasting, and neither is the process of splitting a PDF into two different documents. PDF Split Or Merge is an easy-to-use program that can take care of both these tasks. It’s not perfect, but it does do a good job most of the time.
The program’s interface is quite intuitive, with a wizard that walks you through each step of the process. To get started, just select whether you want to split a PDF or merge multiple PDFs from the drop-down menu and then follow the instructions on the screen. For splitting, you select the page ranges of each of the new documents and choose whether to retain any bookmarks in the original. The program then asks you to select an output location and whether you want to overwrite the original document. PDF Split Or Merge quickly carried out our instructions and created multiple PDFs from our original file. The merge feature wasn’t quite so easy; we tried repeatedly to put the newly split PDFs back together with the program, but it got hung up and kept trying to process the job long after it should have been completed. When we tried the merge feature with a couple of other PDFs that we hadn’t already split, we had no problems; we’re not sure what the difference was. The program has a built-in Help file that describes its features well, although PDF Split Or Merge is easy to figure out without assistance. Overall, we liked PDF Split Or Merge quite a bit. Aside from minor functionality issues, it worked well and couldn’t have been easier.
PDF Split Or Merge installs and uninstalls without issues.
